The mainly Christian village of Horale was attacked on the night of 2 May by a mob from the neighbouring village of Saleman which is predominantly Muslim. The Muslims burnt down 120 houses, three churches and the village school. Four Christians were killed and 56 wounded. Fifteen hectares of crops were destroyed as well as 20 fishing boats and 2 motor-cycles. Three of the four victims had their throats slit, but all were attacked in other ways as well. Mrs Welhelmina Pattiasina (aged 47) was first tortured, and her grand-daughter Yola (6) had her stomach cut open. Edward Unwaru (84) was burned to death after his throat had been cut. A fourth victim, Josef Laumahina (39) was cut and then burned.

Maldives’ Party Calls For Ban On Hassan Saeed’s Book : President of the Islamic Democratic Party (IDP) Umar Naseer has launched an attack on a book co-written by Dr Hassan Saeed ['Freedom Of Religion, Apostasy And Islam''], saying the content of the book makes Saeed an “apostate” and a “heretic”, who is “inviting other religions to the country”. Asked whether he would advocate freedom of religion in the Maldives, Saeed said the issue was of “very little relevance” as “we do not have a non-Muslim population”. [??????]

Sexual crimes like gay bashing & rape towards women have increased in Muslim-populated areas IN SWEDEN, NORWAY (and elsewhere in Europe), and for daring to say it you will be accused of Islamophobia. Egypt, Dec 2007 : Cairo female cafe OFF- LIMITS TO CHRISTIAN GIRLS Imagine a cafe in Europe which would be off limits to Muslim girls. Just count the laws that you are about to break : anti discrimination laws, hate speech laws etc. Your cafe will not last for a week.  Imagine the boycotts, the court orders awaiting you and the grief you’ll get from your own neighbours, calling you ‘Islamophobic’. In Cairo, that is apparently not the case. People might protest about it, but the cafe lives on. It is not even considered ’Christophobic’, it is just another day in an Islamic paradise.

The giant Hindu statue in Batu Caves in Sabah, Malaysia (like the Budha statues of Bamiyan) : to be  demolished ? Dec 2006 : All non-Muslim religious symbols and statues are declared haram and will no longer be allowed in Malaysia by religious decree. The construction of any statue or replica of a living thing, either human or animistic, is forbidden (haram) according to the Shariah to prevent any heretic act of worshiping statues. This is also to protect the sensitivities of Muslims in Sabah in particular and Muslims in Malaysia in general.

Dec 2007, the Parliament vetoed decision that missionary schools be made to remove all Christian religious symbols, statues and crosses.  If not the Christians too would join the Buddhists and Hindus in opposing the government.

YET it is doubtful if the Malay government wld act the same towards mosques, and in such insensitive manner ! 30 Oct 07 : the demolition started. People protested and the biggest Hindu demonstration followed.

MALAYSIA (Dec 27) : Church sues government for banning use of word ‘Allah’ saying it is a PRE-ISLAMIC word. Earlier a Catholic newspaper ordered to drop the word ‘Allah’ or else their publishing permit will not be renewed.

Islamic parties do not want candidates from other religious groups and non-Muslims are reluctant to run against Muslims. Two Christian candidates are running for the reserved minority seats for Christians in the upcoming elections. If elected, they are hoping to help end the controversial “blasphemy laws” under which there is a mandatory death sentence for “defiling the name of Muhammad”.
