News stories like these have multiplied exponentially during the past few years. Hardly a day goes by without similar reports, such as Muslim nurses in the UK refusing to roll up their sleeves to scrub up before surgery, claiming that sharia modesty rules trump concerns about contamination.

In Australia, Muslim students (mostly Saudi citizens) asked Melbourne universities to adjust class times to fit in with their daily prayers. They also requested female-only recreational areas on campus. I have a friend from Vietnam who came to Australia in the 1980s, having been traumatised by the Vietnam War. After being here a few months, she thought she was in paradise. She and her family felt welcomed by Australians, Greeks, Poles, Croats and others. In the past ten years however, she has become increasingly distressed by what she perceived as the arrogant behaviour of the Muslims who moved into her area. To be fair , it was not true of all who moved into her street, but she found over time, that she was excluded from their world and being edged out of her suburb.

Rome, 15 Feb. (AKI) – Islamic courts must be be ruled out in Britain and other Western countries if the democratic rights of all their citizens are to be safeguarded, Iranian born activist Homa Arjomand, told Adnkronos International (AKI).

Homa Arjomand spearheaded a successful campaign to end faith-based arbitration in Canada.

She strongly disagreed with remarks made earlier in February by the head of the Anglican Church, the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, who claimed that Islamic (Sharia) courts in Britain seemed “inevitable” and could aid “social cohesion”.

Arjomand told AKI that adopting Sharia courts, promoting Islamic schools and Islamic centres would be giving in to political Islam.

She said such courts would deny immigrant women equality with men and increase discrimination towards them, as well as the religious and racial segregation of minorities.

“It is the state’s duty to look after the well-being of all citizens, including women and children from so-called Islamic communities,” said Arjomand, who is a secular Muslim.

The failed experience of faith-based courts in Canada , where Arjomand lives, demonstrated the need for a single legal system that treats all individuals equally, she said.

“No rights should be taken away due to cultural sensitivity – we need to draw a line and say so when religious law compromises women’s rights,” said Arjomand.

She is against multiculturalism and cultural relativity, which further divides society into cultural and religious groups, and “leaves people at the mercy of their own culture.”

Multiculturalism is making Britain ‘a soft touch for terrorists’

Britain has become a soft touch for terrorists, leading defence experts warn today. The world-renowned Royal United Services Institute has delivered an unprecedented attack on the Government’s security policy.

It warns that a failure to “lay down the line” to immigrant populations is undermining the fight against domestic extremism. It condemns the country’s “fragmented” national identity and obsession with multiculturalism.

“The United Kingdom presents itself as a target, as a fragmenting, post-Christian society, increasingly divided about interpretations of its history, about its national aims, its values and in its political identity,” it states. By contrast those who refuse to integrate into British society have a “firm self-image”. “This is a problem worsened by the lack of leadership from the majority which in misplaced deference to “multiculturalism” failed to lay down the line to immigrant communities, thus undercutting those within them trying to fight extremism.

The study also follows two blows this week to Labour’s anti-terror strategy. Appeal judges have given an Algerian pilot the go-ahead to claim compensation which could run into millions for being wrongly accused of training the September 11 hijackers. And five young Muslim men had their convictions for terrorist offences quashed by the Appeal Court.

Laws making it a crime to possess extremist jihadi propaganda and literature could now have to be re-written and dozens more prosecutions could collapse after senior judges ruled that police and prosecutors must prove to juries that terror suspects not only possessed potentially dangerous material but were intent on using it in an attack. In Wednesday’s ruling the Lord Chief Justice Lord Phillips stated that unless there was clear evidence of “terrorist intent”, merely possessing or sharing extremist material did not amount to a crime. [SO, 'merely' possessing literature and material to assemble bombs, beheading videos, glorifying terrorism did NOT show intent ?]

The law was designed to help police catch would-be terrorists who have yet to carry out an atrocity but are in the early stages of planning one. But the effect of the ruling is that the police will struggle to build a watertight case against suspects based on such early planning or research for an attack, and will instead be forced to wait until plans are far more advanced – increasing the risk of a successful atrocity.

In the meantime in Australia,  2 Melbourne men, described as a home-grown terrorist group, who are accused of a series of terrorist offences had their  extremist materials confiscated. The charges include intentionally being members of a terrorist organisation involved in the fostering or preparation of a terrorist act.

Terrorist manuals describing how to make and detonate bombs were found in the possession of some members of the Muslim men. Another manual, ‘The terrorists’ handbook’, described a number of terrorism techniques and included chapters on how to buy, steal and prime chemicals that could be used in bombs.

[So, the moral of the story is, if you intend to commit a terrorist act, avoid Australia.]
