ISTANBUL, Turkey (AP) – The Orthodox Church says it’s a historic monastery, and the Turkish government describes it as old pig farm. A dispute over a dilapidated structure highlights tension over Turkey’s religious minorities, a key concern as the European Union considers membership for the Muslim-majority nation.
In November, forest ministry officials knocked down part of a building that the church said was a monastery on Heybeliada, an island in the Sea of Marmara off Istanbul. They said renovation there was illegal because it was taking place on government property.
Now the ruins are the subject of a legal battle between the government and the Istanbul-based Orthodox Patriarchate, which has been hosting Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis during his trip to Turkey this week, the first by a Greek premier in almost five decades.
Greece has been an advocate of the Greek Orthodox minority in Turkey, though Greek opposition parties have blamed the government for not doing enough to support the dwindling community.

EUROPEANS THINK ISLAM IS DANGEROUS
Sunday January 27,2008
By Jason Groves
Lord Carey is among report’s authors
AN “overwhelming majority” of Europeans believe immigration from Islamic countries is a threat to their traditional way of life, a survey revealed last night.
The poll, carried out across 21 countries, found “widespread anti-immigration sentiment”, and warned Europe’s Muslim population will treble in the next 17 years. It reported “a severe deficit of trust is found between the Western and Muslim communities”, with most people wanting less interaction with the Muslim world.
The study, whose authors include the former Archbishop of Canterbury Lord Carey, was commissioned for leaders at the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland. It reports “a growing fear among Europeans of a perceived Islamic threat to their cultural identities, driven in part by immigration from predominantly Muslim nations”.
And it concludes: “An overwhelming majority of the surveyed populations in Europe believe greater interaction between Islam and the West is a threat.”
Opposition member of parliament David Davies told the Sunday Express: “I am not surprised by these findings. People are fed up with multiculturalism and being told they have to give up their way of life.
“Most people in Britain expect anyone who comes here to be willing to learn our language and fit in with us.”
Mr Davies added: “People do get annoyed when they see millions spent on translating documents and legal aid being given to people fighting for the right to wear a head-to-toe covering at school.
“A lot of people are very uncomfortable with the changes being caused by immigration and politicians have been too slow to wake up to that.”
The report says people have little enthusiasm for greater understanding with Islam and attempts to improve relations have been “disappointing”. And with the EU Muslim population expected to reach 15 per cent by 2025 it predicts: “Any deterioration on the international front will be felt most severely in Europe.”

A playground in modern Vienna, where Europeans once stood their ground against Islam’s advance. [Ever seen a 'church' in a Muslim's country playground ?]

You are the foreigners here!!!
Never a dull moment in our glorious multicultural society! Today the Dutch conservative blog HetVrijeVolk.com published a furious email from the Rotterdam Labor Party councillor Bouchra Ismaili. I quote:
“Listen well, you crazy freak. We are here to stay! Hahahaha. Drop dead! I am a Dutch Muslim and I will stay that way until I die.”
Ismaili contends: “You are the foreigners here!!! With Allah on my side I fear no one. Me and my fellow Muslims are alive! Your species is being consumed by hatred. Let me give you some advice: Convert to Islam and find peace at heart!”
Now what exactly made Ismaili go snap? A certain Mr Jos Parbleu had sent her two quotes from the local leader of the radically Islamist organization Hizbut-Tahrir. During an interview with the newspaper De Telegraaf he ( the HT guy) had said:
“We reject freedom of speech, because we reject democracy,” and “What you need is a heavy bomb attack”.
But Bouchra Ismaili (a so-called ‘moderate’ Muslim), instead of venting her anger against Hizbut Tahrir, she vented her rage against… Jos Parbleu and what she calls ‘his species’ or ‘the devil worshippers’.
I must admit that Ismaili is right about one thing: The ethnically Dutch are rapidly becoming foreigners in their own cities. Today, 36 pct of the Rotterdammers are of non-Western origin, i.e. Surinamese, Turkish or – like Ismaili – Moroccan. Under the age of 21, however, this percentage has risen to approximately 53 pct.
Now, the effects of this demographic shock wave are starting to set in. In October, the same Rotterdam city council made news when some members complained not to be able to understand their fellow councillors. Because they were speaking Turkish during the meetings and the breaks in between.
It seems that the multicultural radicals are finally going to have their way. The ethnically Dutch are becoming more and more marginalized in all the major cities.

A candidate campaigning for the Graz city council in Austria says it is time that Islam was “thrown back … behind the Mediterranean,” and alleges Muhammad wrote the Koran in “epileptic fits.” (comment : ALL true of course, but in politically correct Europe, you are not allowed to say this !)
In an interview with the daily Österreich published on Monday, Susanne Winter continued the onslaught saying that child abuse is “widespread” among Muslim men and that Graz is facing a “tsunami of Muslim immigration.” In 20 or 30 years, she warned, half of Austria’s population would be Muslim.
Her comments have resulted in a storm of protest in Austria, with politicians and commentators of all stripes taking Winter and her party to task. Austrian prosecutors (read : the politically correct dhimmies) are also looking into the possibility of filing charges against the 50-year-old politician for incitement.
A Winter campaign poster: “Don’t give radical Islam a home.”
Death threath against FPÖ politician justifies her attack on Islam :
FPÖ General Secretary Harald Vilimsky said Wednesday that the Islamic death threat against Graz FPÖ politician Susanne Winter had justified her Sunday attack on Islam.
A death threat against Winter claiming to be from European Al-Qaeda appeared on the internet on Monday. The head of her party’s list in the January 20 municipal election, she has subsequently received protection from members of the elite Cobra security force.
There are lots of death threats against her in the comments on youtube.
Vilimsky added that the FPÖ was awaiting “a clear response” to the death threat from Austrian President Heinz Fischer and SPÖ Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer. The party general secretary declared that he would not distance himself from Winter’s remarks and that Austria needed a tougher policy against radical Islam. (Not ‘radical’ Islam. Just Islam….)
Vilimsky called for additional security measures such as mandatory identification of each passport holder’s religion in the holder’s travel document, fingerprint data for persons with an Islamic background and creation of a special unit in the Federal Office for Protection of the Constitution and the Fight against Terrorism to combat terrorism.
With more and more far right politicians being the only ones courageous enough to speak out against Islam, is it any wonder then that they are attracting more and more votes ?
