More Muslim Rioting in Paris, 27/11/2007 :
Rioting broke in one of Paris’s tinder box suburban housing estates for two nights now after two [Muslim] young boys were killed when their moped collided with a police car. The boys who died were said by locals to be “aged between 12 and 13″. Police insisted that their car had not been chasing the boys, and that the officer driving suffered facial injuries in the incident, which happened soon after dusk.
The scenes are reminiscent of the disturbances in 2005 which led to two months of serious [Muslim] rioting across much of France.
Just kids protesting about marginalisation ?
The rioting youths in France have injured more than 130 police officers, several seriously, with some youths vowing to continue until there are deaths. Of the six in serious condition, four were hurt as a result of gunfire. One of the four lost an eye and another officer’s shoulder was shattered by a bullet after some of the youths used hunting shotguns as well as more conventional guns, firebombs and rocks.
“We are sitting targets,” said Sophie Bar, a local police officer who stood guard outside. “They were throwing rocks at us and it was impossible to see where they came from. They just came raining over the roof.”
Molotov cocktails were thrown, and cars and plastic bins set on fire following the tragedy in Tolinette, a notoriously crime-ridden district of Villiers-le-Bel, some 20 miles north of the centre of the French capital.
One police station was set alight and another, in a neighbouring suburb, was ransacked after youths threw cocktails, and set bins alight and upturned cars.
Jean-François Illy, a regional police chief, came face to face with a mob of immigrant youths armed with baseball bats, iron bars and shotguns. What happened next has sickened the nation. As Illy tried to reassure the gang that there would be an investigation into the deaths of two teenagers whose motorbike had just collided with a police car, he heard a voice shouting: “Somebody must pay for this. Some pigs must die tonight!”
The 43-year-old commissaire realised it was time to leave, but that was not possible: they set his car ablaze. He stood as the mob closed in on him, parrying the first few baseball bat blows with his arms. An iron bar in the face knocked him down.
“I tried to roll myself into a ball on the ground,” said Illy from his hospital bed. He was breathing with difficulty because several of his ribs had been broken and one had punctured his lung.
Police union officials expressed concern that the violence was more severe than the fighting that had occurred in the Paris suburbs in 2005. “The violence over the last days has been worse than two years ago in terms of its intensity,” Mr. Debuire said.
The violence had grim echoes of the disturbances which followed the electrocution of two youths in a sub-station as they fled police in the nearby suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois in late 2005. It directly led to two months of serious rioting across France, with a state of emergency being declared.

Cost of 20 days Muslim rioting : 10,000 cars torched, 3,800 attacks on police officers ; 130 police officers wounded; some 100 factories and industrial buildings vandalized and/or set ablaze; the same thing happened to some 100 schools, kindergartens, sports centers and (other) government buildings, as well as to at least 13 Christian cemetaries, chapels and churches, plus at least 4 Jewish centers and synagogues. There was also one attempt to set fire to a mosque. Three people were murdered: 56-year old Jean-Claude Irvoas was beaten to death in front of his wife and child, and 61-year old Jacques Le Chenadec was kicked to death when he tried to extinguish a burning dustbin in front of the apartment block where he lived, an African woman burnt to death in the bus torched by peaceful Muslims.
